The Digital Beam Former system (DBF) synthesizes multiple receives beams from complex video data coming from AGRs. Complex video input data is in 16 bit I & Q format. DBF performs complex multiplication using input data and weights associated with each channel of AGR output. Final output comprises of 12 synthesized beams in fixed point format.
DBF accepts the data from front-end of the phased array through optical links, synthesize beams and deliver this data to signal processing units over optical link for further processing. The beam formation is done by algorithmic processing of the received data in FPGAs. It also receives sync signal as input and passes it to all AGR over RS422 after necessary buffering with maximum skew of 10 ns. Configuration, control and status monitoring of the DBF unit takes place through Ethernet.
